I am surprised at my self in regards to this challenge. I have quickly come to an overall plan for the theme and even decided on the type of fabric I will use.
The theme: Buddhist Temple Decoration Design
The Inspiration: The Nepalese Peace Pagoda in the
Southbank Parkland's in Brisbane.
I choose this theme because I have seen this temple so many times but never 'really' seen it. It was built for the World Expo in 1988 and at the end of the exhibition it was to be sold to a city in Japan. However, it had entered into the hearts of Brisbane people 90,000 of whom signed a petition to keep it here. A public appeal was launched to buy it and keep it in the parklands. So here it sits on the edge of the Brisbane river, in a rain-forest far from the Himalayan mountains where the carvers of the Kathmandu valley created it. It is a place for reflection, meditation and gratitude.
Because of the short time line, and the pressure of my full time job, I have drawn my design by hand. I will put it into Illustrator once I get past Christmas. I wanted to keep that wood look to the block so have auditioned it in Batiks. I had these in my stash. Sure hope I can find something like them when I go to the patchwork shop.
