Were I live

The quilt is finished

I found this quilt pattern on the throw-out table at my quilt group.  The pattern reminded me of an incident with my niece and her daughter .  They had hens but a fox got into the hen house and ate some of the hens.

I don't think I was actually going to make this quilt but after I got the cancer diagnosis I needed something to work on that would block out the reality of my situation.  The other contributing factor, that surfaced once I started treatment, was the diagnosis for Peripheral Neuropathy, that is why I am having problems with my right arm. There is a limit to the amount and type of hand stitching I can do, so  I want to expand my machine sewing skills.

I took it to the long arm quilter for her to quilt and we both though circles would be good because they make you think of eggs.

Everyday after I got home from my treatment sessions I stitched these "Chooks" and just kept at it.  Some days I might only manage 10 mins some days a couple of hours.

It is actually quiet a big quilt.   Here it is on a King sized single and it hangs down on both sides, 85"x 72", not quiet a double bed size but bigger than a single.  I didn't buy any fabric, with the exception of the backing fabric, but just used fabric from my stash, and, I didn't follow the pattern just cut it how it fitted the fabric.  I still have left overs and I think I cut too much binding.

Now I think I need to make a quilt bag from that left over backing fabric.

There is quiet a bit of backing fabric left over.  I might have to think of some other things to make!
