Holiday snaps
December 15, 2013
At the front of our holiday house were two cycades, fairly old in our terms but as these plants live for millions of years I suppose they are actually young. These were Japanese Sago cycades and both were females with wonderful centres.
The plants look like palms but are more closely related to the fir tree. That centre cone looks like something out of a Si-Fi movie.
It reminds me of the ceramics made by Hitomi Hosono. She is able to achieve that same look but in ceramics. This piece was puchased by the British Museum this year.
There must be a male plant around somewhere because there we pups around both of these females and Hayley, who owns the house, says they are mine. They look so weird I think they will be great in my new garden.
What fascinating textures there!

They are very unusual.
