A donation of lace

The Guild received a donation of old lace.  It was very grubby and there was a considerable amount of it, too much to post here.  But among it were some beautiful pieces.  Like this dress made of Limerick Lace.

Then there was this curious pair of knickers.  One of the ladies said these were worn by farm workers and made relieving your bladder a lot easier.  I have seen this design for children but never adults.

It is just beautiful. You could change the colour of the petticoat and the dress would change. I would have loved a dress like this.

Hi Caroline, The open knickers caught my attention as there are a pair on display at Crawford House, Alstonville. The Current Exhibition is on the Alstonville Plateau Historical Society's Underwear Collection which ends on 23/2/14. Good to know what they were.
