What happened with that old house at the end of the street

There was an old house that stood at the end of my street.  It was crumbling just a bit more everytime you looked at it.  Then back in June 2011 they started a renovation that I blogged about here.

Well, the renovation is now finished.  It took some time and seemed to stall along the way.  Because the house was heritage listed there were restrictions on what they could do but it isn't falling down anymore.

They have divided the land it sits on and the back half has become accomodation .  It looks rather squashed from the back.

But the garden is bright and I see it is being used as office space.

Babysitting

A week is a long time in the life of a baby.  My grandaughter Jasmine has suddenly become a little girl.  She has no fear and launches herself into the world.  Not like her sister who is cautious.  She has the cheekiest face  and has decided that the dogs bed is a great place to play.  The dog, Chopper, sees her coming and makes a hasty retreat.

She started to get out of the bed in the normal way,

but then decides to swim out head first.

She still manages to come up smiling.

Grandma needs eyes in the back of her head for this one, and she isn't even walking yet.

Nostalga

My father was a designer and when I saw this little video it took me back to the smell of the inks and the swish of the squeegees.

I love Celia Birtwell designs and they have a kind of timelessness about them.  I found them back in the early 1970's and she is still designing.  You can see all her designs on her web page.

This short video was taken at a function at the V&A.

I think I still have a couple of pieces that were too nice to cut in my stash.

Cheating

When we were in Malaney there was a breakfast event on in the hall.  All the tables were attractively set with embroidered tablecloths.  It looked so old Australian country.

Then I checked the tablecloths.  Only one was stitched.

The others were drawn in with a pen.  That's cheating.

Return to the normal cycle

Now that Pammy has flown away life is starting to return to it's normal rhythms.  I loved having her visit and we had so much to do.  She was here to speak at the International Women's Day Luncheon on the Sunshine Coast and also to teach a class there.  It is about an hour an a half travel each way and we did the trip each day.  The class was held in the Cof E church in Maleny and everyone enjoyed the day, including me.

The normally sparkling view back to Brisbane from the escarpment was shrouded in mists but it didn't take anything away from the experience.

We take water dragons for granted, although they do look rather fierce but they are quite harmless. There was one in the cafe where we had breakfast and even a carved one on the roof.

Now I have to return to my own work, and I'm thinking of making some of the quilting pieces in Pam's new book into embroideries.

I'm just thinking about that one.  I still have a heap of things to do first.
