Another elephant from Sri Lanka

Some more Sri Lankan Embroidery.

Another friend has just returned with some interesting embroidery from Sri Lanka.  The first is from a charity group who use this to help women earn some money.  The embroidery seems to have been stitched by inexperienced embroiderers but still has a lot of charm.

I like the use of the pieces of Ada cloth as the saddle.

DSC06299 - Version 2

This piece has embroidery from a more experienced stitcher.

Those solid colours used in the outlines are bias binding that you buy in the habidashery dept.  They are held in place with fly stitch.  Very effective.

They're charming - especially the little elephant!

I love the rooster, he looks so proud of his tail...

Some nice stitching ideas.
