Week 7 Detached Chain
This was the first 'fancy stitch' that I ever learnt. It was one of the few stitches that I knew in fact, for years. Anything needed decoration, I would use this stitch. It took me a while to get those flowers balanced but I did eventually.
They say that 'familiarity breeds contempt' and I think I had become a bit contemptuous about using this stitch. So for this sample I decided to do everything 'pretty'. Soft colours and all the old fashioned variations I could think of. That was until I started to look at the variations in my reference books. By the time I had finished all of these there wasn't much room left on the sampler.
So there is only one row of combinations, besides the borders and I have finished with a line of creatures. It's amazing what you can do with this stitch.

Yes, it's a stitch we learn so young it can seem dull - right up until you do your research...!
